Earlier today,
and I were meant to go live on TikTok. It did not occur (although we did manage a short live on Instagram). Here's what happened instead.
Sam went live. I joined the live as a viewer. Sam could not add me. Some people in the chat gave suggestions. She tried them. She could not add me.
At one point, she opened it up to add other creators, thinking I could add myself, but instead, a woman with her bum facing the camera, and a sign say 'Rose for a fart' appeared on screen next to Sam.
Then Sam couldn't get her out for AGES. Oh my god, I was basically on the floor laughing at this point. Poor Sam.
In the end, it looks like I might not be able to join because I don't have enough followers on there yet (🥺), but here are some lessons from the live.
1) We probably should have tried this *before* telling people we were going to be doing it. (That said, it still would have been live, so no escaping the fact that people might join in and see us fail in public.)
2) It wasn't a big deal. Tech goes wrong all the time. We absolutely failed this time. We'll try again, or decide on a different format.
3) There is at least one woman farting for money on TikTok. Farting. For. Money. I think we all need to recognise that people see the value in that. In farting. For money. (I’m sorry, it’s going to take me a long time to get over this.). So maybe we can see the value of our own work / books/ contributions to society, get it together and promote ourselves a bit more.
4) Stuff that goes wrong makes great content.
Anyway, hopefully we'll be attempting the live more successfully in a couple of weeks, otherwise we'll rethink and doing something else. And in the meantime, please follow me on TikTok if you’re over there. I’ll be sharing a mix of books, book marketing and life as a solo mum of two. And hopefully doing live videos with Sam every couple of weeks!
One day I will be a professional, one day - and that day is not TODAY. Lols.
Really funny!! And love how you've drawn lessons from the whole (hole??) experience.
